Tofu Sisig is a plant-based version of the traditional Filipino dish "Sisig," which is typically made from pork. Instead of using pork, tofu is used as the main ingredient, making it a great vegetarian alternative. The tofu is crispy on the outside while remaining tender on the inside, often seasoned with soy sauce, calamansi (or lemon), onions, chili peppers, and a bit of vinegar to give it that signature tangy, savory flavor. It's often served on a sizzling plate, topped with a raw egg (optional), and sometimes garnished with green onions. I used the air-fryer as an alternative to deep frying to be a little more on the healthy side :)

Tofu
Skillet
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine tofu (1 block) with cornstarch (2 Tbsp), garlic powder (1 tsp), pepper (½ tsp), and avocado oil (2 Tbsp). Gently toss to coat evenly.
Lightly oil the bottom of the air fryer basket to prevent sticking. Air fry the tofu at 400 °F for 10 minutes.
Shake the basket to stir the tofu, then air fry for an additional 10 minutes or until crispy. Set aside.
Heat oil (1 Tbsp) in a skillet over medium heat.
Add most of the red onions (1 small), bell peppers (½ small), and chilis, reserving a small amount for garnish. Sauté until the vegetables are soft.
Add the air-fried tofu to the skillet. Mix well and season with salt and pepper (to taste).
In a bowl, combine all sauce ingredients.
Pour the tofu and vegetable mixture into the sauce and toss to coat evenly.
